Private NIPT Testing at London Bridge
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing, usually known as NIPT, is a prenatal screening test that analyses cell-free DNA present in the mother’s blood to assess the chance of certain chromosomal conditions affecting the pregnancy.
NIPT can be performed from 10 weeks of pregnancy and requires only a maternal blood sample.
At The Blackheath Clinic, NIPT is provided as a clinical service rather than simply a blood test. Your test is supported by our medical team, with results reviewed and communicated personally and appropriate follow-up arranged if required.
Our London Bridge clinic is located in The News Building, 3 London Bridge Street, immediately beside London Bridge Station and The Shard.
NIPT Test Prices at London Bridge
We offer three levels of NIPT screening depending upon how much information you would like
| NIPT Test | Without Ultrasound | With Ultrasound |
|---|---|---|
| Standard NIPT – Trisomy 21, 18 & 13 | £350 | £450 |
| Advanced NIPT – Trisomy 21, 18 & 13 + Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies | £395 | £495 |
| Extended NIPT – Trisomy 21, 18 & 13 + Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies + selected microdeletions | £475 | £575 |
Fetal sex determination is optional and available at no additional cost.
A viability scan is required before NIPT. If you have already had an appropriate ultrasound confirming pregnancy viability and gestational age, you may book the blood-test-only option. Otherwise, please select an NIPT package including ultrasound.
What Does NIPT Screen For?
Our Standard NIPT assesses the chance of the three most commonly screened autosomal trisomies:
These are also the three conditions included in the NHS NIPT screening pathway in England.
Depending upon the NIPT option selected, additional screening may be available for sex chromosome differences and selected microdeletion syndromes.
It is important to understand that NIPT is a screening test, not a diagnostic test. It estimates the chance of the pregnancy being affected by the conditions screened for. A higher-chance result requires appropriate clinical discussion and may be followed by diagnostic testing.
NIPT From 10 Weeks of Pregnancy
NIPT can be performed from 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Before taking the blood sample, we need confirmation that the pregnancy is viable and has reached the appropriate gestation.
If you have already had a suitable pregnancy scan, you can bring the details with you and may book NIPT without an additional ultrasound.
If you have not yet had a viability scan, we can perform an ultrasound at our London Bridge clinic immediately before your NIPT blood test.
Our Patient Review

I was understandably very worried and was able to book an appointment within just a couple of hours. From the moment we met him, Dr Mac Sweeney was kind, reassuring, professional and genuinely caring. He took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and made us feel that my husband was in very safe hands.
What impressed me most was that his care did not stop when we left the consultation. He followed up on several occasions to check on my husband's progress, prescribed more medicine and even went out of his way to provide a letter for our insurance company, which was incredibly helpful.
In a world where good service can sometimes feel hard to find, Dr Mac Sweeney demonstrated a level of compassion and personal attention that was truly exceptional. The fee was also very reasonable, especially given the time, care and support we received.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Mac Sweeney to anyone needing medical assistance and will always be grateful for the kindness he showed to both of us. If I lived in London I would most certainly subscribe to his membership scheme so he could deal with all my family's medical needs.

The clinic has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with a fresh, calming scent that immediately creates a welcoming environment. Everything was explained clearly and professionally, making the whole experience completely stress-free.
I particularly appreciated the expert advice and felt comfortable throughout. I would highly recommend The Blackheath Clinic to anyone looking for a professional, patient-focused service.

As I entered the tastefully curated space, I encountered one of the rarest of things: a polite, smiling and genuinely welcoming receptionist. In fact, she was so warm and courteous that I briefly wondered whether I had wandered into an upmarket spa by mistake.
Then I met Dr Sweeney. He was charming, courteous, friendly and thoroughly professional, with the kind of bedside manner that reminds you what general practice can be at its best: attentive, humane and quietly confident. He came across as someone who takes real pride in his work and genuinely cares for his patients.
The whole experience felt like stepping back into a time when patients were warmly received and doctors truly doctored. As I was leaving, Dr Sweeney mentioned that he was off on a home visit. A GP doing a home visit in 2026? I was so astonished I nearly needed examining all over again.
Join this practice quickly before word gets out and the list fills up. This is care delivered by people who genuinely care, and that feels all too rare these days

I had lip filler and RRS Long Lasting skin boosters, and she took the time to explain everything clearly, answer all my questions, and ensure I felt confident about the treatments. Her attention to detail and gentle approach really stood out, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Dr Micha Plugaru truly combines expertise with a warm, personal touch. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering aesthetic treatments — you’re in the safest and most caring hands.
Why Choose Our London Bridge NIPT Service?
GP-Led Clinical Care
NIPT can raise important medical and personal questions.
Our service is supported by a GP who can explain what the test screens for, its limitations and what your results mean.
If further investigation is required, we can discuss the appropriate next steps rather than simply sending you a laboratory report without clinical support.
Ultrasound and NIPT in One Appointment
If you require an ultrasound before your NIPT, both can be arranged during the same visit at our London Bridge clinic.
Your ultrasound can confirm pregnancy viability and gestational age before the blood sample is taken.
Fast Results
Results are typically returned within 3–5 working days, although laboratory processing times can occasionally vary.
Once your result is available, it will be reviewed and communicated to you securely.
Personal Support With Your Results
If your result indicates a higher chance of one of the conditions screened for, a GP will discuss the result with you and explain the appropriate options for further assessment.
Where necessary, we can advise regarding referral to your NHS fetal medicine service, obstetric team or an appropriate private specialist.
How Does NIPT Work?
During pregnancy, fragments of DNA derived predominantly from the placenta circulate in the mother’s bloodstream.
NIPT analyses this cell-free DNA from a maternal blood sample to estimate the chance of certain chromosomal conditions affecting the pregnancy.
Because the test requires only a blood sample from the mother, it does not carry the procedure-related miscarriage risk associated with invasive diagnostic procedures such as CVS or amniocentesis.
However, NIPT and invasive diagnostic testing serve different purposes: NIPT is screening, whereas CVS and amniocentesis can provide a diagnostic answer for the conditions being investigated. Current NHS information makes this distinction when counselling women following a higher-chance screening result.

NIPT After NHS Combined Screening
Some patients arrange private NIPT before having NHS combined screening, while others choose NIPT after receiving their NHS screening result.
In England, NHS screening assesses the chance of Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome and Patau’s syndrome. Within the NHS pathway, NIPT is offered following an eligible higher-chance result from combined or quadruple screening.
Private NIPT can also be chosen independently by patients who would like this form of screening without waiting for an NHS higher-chance result.
Having private NIPT does not replace your routine NHS maternity care or ultrasound screening.
Standard, Advanced or Extended NIPT?
Standard NIPT – £350
Our Standard NIPT screens for:
-
Trisomy 21 – Down’s syndrome -
Trisomy 18 – Edwards’ syndrome -
Trisomy 13 – Patau’s syndrome
For many patients, this provides the core chromosomal screening they are seeking.
Advanced NIPT – £395
Our Advanced NIPT includes screening for Trisomy 21, 18 and 13 together with sex chromosome aneuploidies.
These are conditions involving differences in the number of X or Y chromosomes.
Fetal sex determination can also be requested at no additional charge.
Extended NIPT – £475
Our Extended NIPT includes the above screening together with screening for a selection of microdeletion syndromes.
Microdeletions involve small missing sections of chromosomes rather than an entire additional or missing chromosome.
We can explain the additional scope and limitations of this testing before you decide which panel is most appropriate for you.

No. NIPT is a highly informative screening test, but it is not diagnostic. A higher-chance result may require further assessment and potentially diagnostic testing such as CVS or amniocentesis.
Fetal sex determination is available as an optional part of appropriate NIPT testing at no additional cost.
A higher-chance result does not by itself establish that the baby has the condition. We will discuss the result with you and explain the appropriate next steps, which may include specialist fetal medicine assessment and consideration of diagnostic testing.
Private NIPT can be arranged independently of the NHS screening pathway, subject to the clinical suitability of the pregnancy for the test.
