NIPT Testing Without Travelling to a Clinic

Having an NIPT blood test does not necessarily mean travelling across London to attend a clinic.

Our home-testing service brings the blood-collection part of the process to you.

You can speak with one of our doctors first, arrange your test remotely and have your NIPT collection kit delivered to your home. We then arrange for a mobile phlebotomy professional to visit you to collect the blood sample.

This can be particularly convenient during pregnancy, when travelling across London for an appointment may be the last thing you want to do.

It also means that our service is available to women across a much wider area of London rather than being limited to those living near one particular clinic.

Why Start With a Free GP Consultation?

We believe there is an important difference between simply ordering a blood test and receiving a doctor-led NIPT service.

NIPT is a medical screening test. Before proceeding, you may understandably have questions about when you can test, what the test screens for, whether you need a scan first and which testing option is appropriate for you.

That is why our home-testing service starts with a doctor rather than a testing kit.

Your initial GP consultation gives you an opportunity to discuss these questions before deciding whether to proceed.

The consultation is free, and you are under no obligation to purchase an NIPT test afterwards.

When Can I Have an NIPT Test at Home?

NIPT can generally be performed from 10 weeks of pregnancy, depending on the particular test being used and your individual circumstances.
It is therefore important that we have appropriate information about your gestation before arranging your blood collection.
This is something we will discuss during your GP consultation.
If you already have reliable dating information, it may not be necessary to arrange another ultrasound purely for the purposes of NIPT.
If your dates are uncertain, or there is another clinical reason why an ultrasound would be appropriate, we can discuss this with you before testing.

Do I Need a Scan Before an NIPT Home Test?

Not everyone needs an additional ultrasound before having NIPT.
If your pregnancy has already been appropriately dated and you have reliable information about your gestation, you may be able to proceed directly to the blood test.
There are, however, circumstances in which an ultrasound may be useful or clinically appropriate before NIPT.
Your GP will discuss this with you before we arrange your home blood collection.
This means we can establish the appropriate pathway first rather than simply sending a blood-testing kit without reviewing your circumstances.

What Does NIPT Screen For?

NIPT analyses cell-free DNA circulating in the mother’s bloodstream during pregnancy.

The principal conditions commonly screened for include:
  • Trisomy 21 — Down syndrome
  • Trisomy 18 — Edwards syndrome
  • Trisomy 13 — Patau syndrome

Depending on the NIPT option selected, additional screening may also be available.

NIPT is a screening test rather than a diagnostic test. A higher-chance result therefore requires appropriate clinical discussion and may lead to consideration of further diagnostic testing.

During your free consultation, we can explain the available NIPT options and help you understand the differences between them.

I cannot thank Dr Mac Sweeney enough for the care and support he gave my husband when he became seriously ill while we were away from home in London.
I was understandably very worried and was able to book an appointment within just a couple of hours. From the moment we met him, Dr Mac Sweeney was kind, reassuring, professional and genuinely caring. He took the time to listen, explained everything clearly, and made us feel that my husband was in very safe hands.
What impressed me most was that his care did not stop when we left the consultation. He followed up on several occasions to check on my husband's progress, prescribed more medicine and even went out of his way to provide a letter for our insurance company, which was incredibly helpful.
In a world where good service can sometimes feel hard to find, Dr Mac Sweeney demonstrated a level of compassion and personal attention that was truly exceptional. The fee was also very reasonable, especially given the time, care and support we received.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr Mac Sweeney to anyone needing medical assistance and will always be grateful for the kindness he showed to both of us. If I lived in London I would most certainly subscribe to his membership scheme so he could deal with all my family's medical needs.

We had a wonderful experience with Lydia at the Blackheath Clinic for a 3D/4D scan of our baby. She knew exactly what to do to help get our baby in a good position for us to see his face and we were blown away by the photos she gave us. A really moving experience in a beautiful, calm clinic

This is healthcare as it should be delivered. If life has left you weary and nostalgic for days gone by, book your next GP appointment at Blackheath Clinic.
As I entered the tastefully curated space, I encountered one of the rarest of things: a polite, smiling and genuinely welcoming receptionist. In fact, she was so warm and courteous that I briefly wondered whether I had wandered into an upmarket spa by mistake.
Then I met Dr Sweeney. He was charming, courteous, friendly and thoroughly professional, with the kind of bedside manner that reminds you what general practice can be at its best: attentive, humane and quietly confident. He came across as someone who takes real pride in his work and genuinely cares for his patients.
The whole experience felt like stepping back into a time when patients were warmly received and doctors truly doctored. As I was leaving, Dr Sweeney mentioned that he was off on a home visit. A GP doing a home visit in 2026? I was so astonished I nearly needed examining all over again.
Join this practice quickly before word gets out and the list fills up. This is care delivered by people who genuinely care, and that feels all too rare these days

I had such a wonderful experience with Dr Micha Plugaru. From the moment I walked in, she made me feel completely at ease. She is incredibly professional, kind, and genuinely caring, which made the whole experience so comfortable and reassuring.

I had lip filler and RRS Long Lasting skin boosters, and she took the time to explain everything clearly, answer all my questions, and ensure I felt confident about the treatments. Her attention to detail and gentle approach really stood out, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

Dr Micha Plugaru truly combines expertise with a warm, personal touch. I would highly recommend her to anyone considering aesthetic treatments — you’re in the safest and most caring hands.
